In the current study ten horses between 3 and 18 years old were evaluated in Pichincha. The horses used for this research project were diagnosed with chronic pathologies, from pastern joint to the distal portion of the limb. The kind of injuries, that were used as an analyze object, showed different lameness characteristics with a different grade on lameness and a dissimilar prognosis. Once all of the horses were selected and with a specific diagnose, a digital palmar block (PD) was done with Lidocaine 2% and Sarapin® with an interval of 8 days. After the PD block, all of the horses were evaluated by two parameters, the measurement of the sensibility on the skin on the collateral cartilages with a round tip pen and the measurement of lameness with the AAEP (America Association of Equine Practitioners) scale, after the PD block. Each horse was evaluated, every five minutes, for both parameters previously mentioned after the PD block with both drugs. The average time for hypoesthesia for skin sensibility over the collateral cartilages, after the PD block, with Lidocaine 2% was 38±3.18 minutes. The perineural block with Sarapin® did not presented any sign of hypoesthesia over the skin of the collateral cartilages. In the lameness scale analysis, the results showed that the 100% of the horses submitted to the PD block with Lidocaine 2%, were in grade 0 of lameness after 5 minutes the PD block was realized. In grade 1 on the scale, the results of this research project showed that in average the horses started to feel pain after 22.50±2.71 minutes which is the time that the drug had a 100% effect. It took in average 46.50±4.22 minutes for all of the horses to recover the initial lameness grade after the PD Block with Lidocaine 2%. The horses that received the PD block with Sarapin®, showed no improvement from their initial lameness grade.en
