dc.descriptionOral breathing is a disorder closely related to dental occlusions, thus affecting the normal development and functionality of bone structures in the oral cavity, a facial. The objective of this study was to determine the type of occlusion that prevails in these cases and what type of medical doctor is outstanding as the cause of mouth breathing in these patients. This work was carried out in 2 children centers in the city of Quito, in a universe of 83 children between 4 and 10 years of age obtaining a sample of 27 children who were diagnosed through the nasal reflex of Gudín as mouth breathers, performing anamnesis to the parents. Our results indicated that according to the types of alterations and occlusion of the highest prevalence is the deepest and narrow corresponds to 41 percent of the sample, followed by a depth deep by 22 percent, a unilateral crusade by 19 percent, Bilateral cross bite 7 percent, incisive protrusion 7 percent, and open bite 4 percent. It was evidenced that the medical diagnosis of prevalence was allergic rhinitis since it consulted the parents if it had knowledge of some pathology associated to the mouth breathing of the 27 patients, 14 presented this pathology, 12 did not know if they had and 1 had asthma. It is concluded that the normal respiratory act (nasal) is necessary to stimulate and maintain a balance of the stomatognathic system; mouth breathing is a bad habit harmful to the correct development of structures a level of oral cavity that was not treated a time can presenting several types of malocclusion.en
