The introduced species on the Galapagos Islands are a serious threat to the biodiversity of this ecosystem given that they are capable of displacing native and endemic species of the region as well as causing significant agricultural problems. One of the worst invasive species on San Cristobal island is Rubus niveus, commonly known as wild blackberry, which has been impossible to control by manual or chemical means (techniques). Thus, the objective of this study is focused on the identification of pathogenic microorganisms found on the plant species which could, in the future, be utilized as a biological means of controlling the invasive species. To this end, samples of leaves with chlorotic spots were collected from various locations on the island. By means of the Scotch tape technique, the microorganisms present were identified and a cytohistochemical analysis performed to observe if the biological agent was attacking the plant tissue. The samples were collected from three points found at different altitudes on San Cristobal island (El Progreso, La Borreguera, and La Soledad), where the incidence varied and diverse phytopathogenic fungi were found. The microorganisms found belong to the Curvularia, Alternaria, Leptosphaeria, Meliola, Paraconiothyrium, and Helminthosporium genera which have previously been reported in Rubus as causal agents of various diseases of the genus and of the Rosaceae family in general. We found that the incidence of R. Niveus increases as the altitude increases due to a small population or a lack of agricultural activity in the region. According to the non-parametric Chisquared test carried out with a significance level of 5%, the presence of microorganisms is directly dependent on the sampling site. This could be explained by the diversity of environmental factors present in each sampling site and how these interact with the microorganisms to make them more or less ineffective.en
