Descripción : The agricultura! system practicad for many years has been based in the abuse of natural resources from soil and an indiscriminate use of agrochemicals. This has caused soil related problems, for example soil salinity. Xyoglucan oligosaccharides (XGO) are a type of plant biostimulant that stimulates vegetable development and could be an alternativa to mitigate the damage in plants caused by soil salinity. This project's aim was to analyse XGO application's effect on the relativa expression of the ch/orop/ast vesiculation gene (CV) and chlorophyll levels in Arabidopsis thaliana plants grown in vitro in liquid medium. For this matter a plant response to saline stress and biostimulant presence induction method was used.CV gene expression was analysed with qRT-PCR, and the results indicate that the presence of XGO in the culture medium down regulates the expression of this gene with and without saline stress. Chlorophyll a and b levels where measured with a spectrophotometric method, and additionally chlorophyll b concentrations where measured with an HPLC. lt was observad that XGO application maintained high chlorophyll levels and that it avoided the high rate of chlorophyll b degradation by free radicals or enzymatic degradation caused by saline conditions. These results indicate that the specific XGO used stimulate a process that protects Arabidopsis thaliana's photosynthetic system and hence higher tolerance to saline stress conditions.
