Alzheimer's disease is a neurological disorder that affects elderly population. This pathology affects several million people around the world while the today treatments are still deficient. Researches in identification of biomarkers for the early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease are intensified. Nowadays we count with well-established biomarkers for diagnosis, such as beta-amyloid analysis, total tau protein in cerebrospinal fluid or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures. The specificity and sensitivity achieved with these biomarkers are good. However, their procedures for sample collection and subsequent analysis have an increased prize and difficulty. In this study, we identified blood biomarkers in Alzheimer's disease by applying bioinformatics tools for processing and analysis of microarrays. Microarrays obtained from the public Gene Expression Omnibus databases were analyzed using several algorithms and bioinformatics methods. Differentiation of gene expression in cases and controls was studied followed by co-expression networks analysis. Enrichment analysis of biological processes and metabolic pathways were necessary to verify the relationship between the expression of certain genes and Alzheimer's disease. In order to provide a new study target, a list of genes that are potential candidates for being biomarkers in Alzheimer's disease was proposed. Combination of features selection methods and co-expression networks allowed us to propose genes PRKCB, CARD8, PIK3CG, NOD2, MXD1, ZFX and PCYOX1L as a potential biomarkers or therapeutic targets for Alzheimer's disease.en
