Descripción : Nutrition is essential for the correct development of child. The deficient physical activity and bad hygiene habits from young population can cause tooth caries and chronic diseases such as diabetes or hypertension. Bad alimentation habits is relationated with oral health, the elevated consumption of carbohydrates results a risk element for the development of tooth decay. Oral health is interrelated with the ingestion of aliments rich in sugar, generating a high presence of tooth decay as a result of an unbalanced diet. Lifestyle modifications and a high intake of aliments lacking in nutrients rich of energy are important causes for nutrition diseases and tooth decay. The objective of the present study was establishing the relationship from nutritional status (low weight and obesity) with the presence of decay in children from 6 to 10 years old who came up to the dental clinic of “Universidad de Las Americas”, through the body mass index that was obtained with weight and height of children that were part of the sample and evaluating the presence of caries through CPOD ceod. As results, we found that children who assisted to dental consultation, 57 percent presented low weight with presence of tooth decay, unlike a 13 percent that presented normal weight with presence of caries. We found that the age more prone to the presence of tooth decay goes from 6 to 8 years old overtaking the 50 percent of buccal affectation, with 30 percent in children of 6 years old, while the 17 percent in boys and girls between 8 to 10 years old. In this survey it was evidenced that malnutrition or low weight has relationship with the presence of caries, which is given for the lack of necessary nutrients for the protection and care of organism.
