Objectives: To analyze the trend of the clinical use of analgesics in the patients of the odontological clinic of the Universidad de las Americas. To determine the analgesics most used in each specialty of the clinic. Analyze the frequency, dose and duration of prescribed drugs. Identify the most common errors in painkillers prescription. Materials and methods: The present investigation is descriptive; this study will identify patients in whom analgesic has been prescribed in clinical dentistry. Clinical records will be reviewed of the patients of the clinic of the Universidad de las Americas, in the period 2016 and will select all the medical histories in which the prescription of analgesic medicines for the pain has been written, regardless of the treatment Dentistry performed or the specialty in which the analgesics have been sent. Clinical histories in which analgesics have been prescribed will review the family of medications send, including dose, frequency, and duration. It will analyze which are the most sent medicines in each specialty. It will highlight the most commonly used analgesics and commonly sent doses. The most common errors found at the time of analgesic prescription will be analyzed. Results: The most used family of drugs is NSAID. The most prescribed medication is Ibuprofen (63.9 percent) at a dose of 600 mg every 8 hours. The specialty that more prescribes analgesia is surgery (61.5 percent). The most frequent error at the time of prescribing is the lack of frequency (55.7 percent). Of the total number of prescriptions 47 percent did it incorrectly and 53 percent had no errors. Conclusions: Due to this study several errors were found in the prescription of analgesics performed at the Udla clinic, such as the absence of weight for dosing in pediatric dentistry patients, incorrect analgesic combinations, lack of data in clinical history. It was evidenced that the family of the Nsaid is the most prescribed, with ibuprofen as a drug prescribed.en
