Objective: To evaluate the enamel surface index after the removal of residual resin for brackets comparing two types of cutters. Methods: The present study is of comparative experimental type, and its objective was to evaluate 40 premolars extracted healthy which were divided into two groups A and B n equal 20. In the process of residual resin removal Group A was evaluated with high velocity tungsten carbide (JET) multilaminated bur while group B with low velocity Fiberglass mill (TDV). The evaluation of the surface index of the dental enamel was carried out by means of the stereomicroscope; the first observation was made to the healthy enamel, prior to the placement of the American Orthodontics metal brackets, the second observation was when the brackets were removed and the final observation followed the removal of residual resin with the burs. ESI and ARI scales were used to give value to the amount of residual resin and to be able to compare the state of the initial and final enamel. Results: The index of the surface of the enamel of group A showed a greater percentage of stripes and modifications. On the other hand, the enamel surface index of group B showed significantly little or no modification in the enamel. Conclusions: The Fiberglass bur wears resin without damaging the topography of the enamel compared to the multi-laminated tungsten carbide bur which causes small modifications in the dental enamel. However, it should be emphasized that the Fiberglass bur requires more time to polish each tooth and the wear of the bur is fast, having at the end more strawberry expense and operator time compared to polishing with the multilaminate bur.en
