Descripción : During the last two decades, medicine has witnessed advances in the use of simulation as part of teaching and learning processes for professionals and future professionals. The objective of the this study is to evaluate the simulation methodology in the Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science Career at “ Universidad de las Américas” located in the Metropolitan District of Quito. The study is of a qualitative cross-sectional observational type, with a tendency to be subjective, using teacher surveys, checklist, student perception questions and interviews with part-time teachers. The surveys were sent to 9 teachers from UDLA who had a relationship with the simulation method as a learning tool for their students. The perception questions was delivered to a total of 65 students, 34 in the third semester of Veterinary Medicine (Anatomy) and 31 in the ninth semester of the course ( Clinic of small species and General Surgery). Finally the practice with real animals was evaluated with a checklist that allowed to estimate the benefits of the simulation. As a complement, 6 part-time teachers of UDLA were interviewed in order to know their opinions regarding this methodology. At the end of the study it was concluded that the simulation method in teaching and learning is a valid and beneficial tool that allows the development of skills and facilitates accessibility to practices without causing harm, however it is a method that needs regulation, planning and training so that its use is adequate allowing to fulfill the purpose of it.
