Objective: To evaluate the periodontal status of the pillar tooth in patients with removable prosthesis who attend the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of the Americas. Materials and methods: A total of 80 patients with removable partial dentures participated in this study. Within a data collection table was placed the date of accomplishment, age of the patient, tooth pillar to evaluate, time of use of PPR. The following periodontal parameters were evaluated for the abutment teeth: insertion level, plate index according to Loe and Silness,), bleeding to the probing using the Muhleman index, depth of probing and index of dental mobility according to the Miller index. These clinical measurements were taken in patients using removable partial dentures for more than one year. Results: Scale indices for plaque, mobility, bleeding, and depth probing of the abutment teeth were not statistically significant in patients using 1 to 2 years compared to those using 3 years or older. The insertion level was the only one that had statistically significant results (p equal 0.0099) Conclusions: The periodontal status of the abutments supporting the removable prosthesis is altered as regards the use of the time of the prosthesis.en
