Descripción : There are some instruments that evaluate the quality of life, a clear example of them is the Oral Health Impact Profile questionnaire (OHIP). However, a questionnaire with the characteristics of OHIP for older adults has not been validated in Ecuador. This research has as purpose the validation and cultural adaptation of the OHIP-14 questionnaire made in Mexico and to create a new one, the OHIP-14Ec, to be used in Ecuador. It is carried out in Ecuadorians over 40 years old who attend the dental clinic of The University of the Americas (UDLA). METHODOLOGY: Starting from the OHIP-14 Mx. questionnaire, a culture was performed, to be understood by the Ecuadorians. This first questionnaire undergoes a first pilot test. Subsequently, faults were evaluated and a new questionnaire was carried out, which underwent a new pilot test. Finally, as there are no faults, the OHIP-14Ec is created to be applied in the sample. The clinical examination was to evaluate caries, prosthesis use, teeth present in the mouth and periodontal disease. RESULTS: A stable instrument with an Excellent Interclase Correlation Coefficient (ICC) of 0.919 was obtained, an internal consistency confirmed by a Cronbach's alpha of 0.9; The discriminatory validity was confirmed to find significant differences between the groups with presence or absence of: dental cavities, use of prostheses, presence of teeth and periodontal disease (p equal 0.01, p equal 0.997, p equal 0.00, p equal 0.00 Respectively). The two parametric tests, Students t gave values in dental caries of 3.45; Prosthesis use of -0.004; periodontal disease of 4.45. In the Anova test the present teeth had 12.42.
