Descripción : The present research focuses on the study of accessible tourism, taking as object of study the facilities with which the Museum of the City, in Quitos Historic Center, receive people with permanent or temporary disabilities. The thesis document is divided in four chapters. The first chapter focuses on the theoretical framework, which describes the evolution of the concept of accessible tourism, the contributions that international organizations have made regarding issues related to accessibility, international symbols of accessibility, and other significant issues. In the second chapter, the types of research, methods, and tools used are described, with which this case study was worked out. In the third chapter, the current regulations are reviewed. National standards (INEN) and international standards described in the manuals created by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) were taken into account in order to confirm if the application of these tools permits an adequate development of accessible tourism within the museum. Throughout the project interviews were made, visits were made to the museum where notes were taken and information was gathered, and a personal life experience exercise was also carried out. The fourth chapter is based on proposing strategies that allow the museum to be recognized as an accessible establishment. Finally, conclusions and recommendations for this recognition are provided.
