Descripción : Music is a lifestyle. The knowledge of music leads us to the field of imagination, to places where we are able to see things in a whole different way; understanding the link between corporal and emotional development. Having musical education helps people to develop their talent, and also to be free, to be more sociable. The experience gather through music allow us to grow in selfconfidence and to become better as individuals and as social beings. Music Foundation "Escuela - Café” is aimed to young people between 12 and 18 years old who have low incomes and live in downtown Quito. In this school students will be able to acquire musical knowledge, towards a path filled with art and away from bad habits such as alcohol and drugs. This project will rely on a coffee lounge in which young people will be able to expand and apply their music skills on stage. They will be able to perform in front of people and fill how the crowd will encourage them. They will know that what they study and practice can be performed and that is appreciated by the audience. The building is located across Cuenca and Chile streets, home of the former National Music Conservatory, in downtown Quito. Spaces were adapted for the school operation, and also the coffee lounge, in which an extension was built on the outdoor patio of the premises. The concept for the architecture interior design is based on the natural qualities of Arupo tree. This tree has a unique feature, which is that it only stays with her flowers two weeks a year in the most appropriate climate. This characteristic resembles to music that is always evolving and changing. The project utilizes the shapes of the branches of this tree that are tied to the entire project, which is reflected in the designs: ceilings, floors, volumes, walls, gardens and colors.
