The aim of the present study was to perform a cytological and anatomopathological evaluation following by the clinical staging of canine cutaneous mast cell tumor. Clinical cases identified in veterinary clinics from the north of the Metropolitan District of Quito over a period of 6 months (January- July 2016) were used. For this research, clinical files were collected and a macroscopic evaluation of the mass of each patient was required. Following this, a cytology with a fine needle puncture and a histopathology exam by excisional or incisional biopsy were performed. For the clincial staging, the frequency of different tumor grades were recorded by the Kuipel staging method (2011). Staging was also assessed according to WHO, based on the macroscopic evaluation of the injury. The analytical results of the cytology study showed that Boxer and mix breed dogs were predominant; in terms of age, adults and elderly canines were more likely to present the tumor; for the variable sex, most males tested positive and the most frequent anatomical location was in the thigh. The analytical results from histopathologcal evaluation found that mastocytoma was commonly seen in mixed breed dog. Adult and elderly patients showed a predominance to this neoplasia, as well as male dogs and the thighs were the most common pathologic area. The Kiupel staging method revealed low grade neoplasia was the most frequent one. The most common tumor stage was stage I without systemic signs. Finally, alopecia predominated as a gross lesion of the mass. The only variables with statistical significance were the anatomical location of the mass, which were the thighs (p value 0.05) and erythema associated with the male sex (p value 0.04). Other variables showed only quantitative differences due to the limited number of patient.en
