dc.descriptionCurrently the burnout syndrome is one of the health problems most commonly occur among health care workers, and holding a fairly close relationship with people, generating emotional, personal and family difficulties due to poor solution to this problem. Factors that may influence the onset of this syndrome are primarily overwork, age, marital status. That is why health professionals are susceptible to emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and low personal accomplishment caused by a serious excessive work stress. The objective of this research was to determine the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome among nursing staff Center San Juan de Dios in the city of Quito. The study is transversal, quantitative description in a random sample of 30 nurses and nursing assistants in a hospital in II level between June and May 2016. Previous informed consent a questionnaire that was used as an instrument (Maslach Burnout Inventory) containing 22 items is performed The results showed the study focused on those employees who are relatively young, as it is in age ranges between 20 to 40 years of age who are working in the institution of two to five years. Burnout determining the existence of an intermediate level, reflecting that in this group, there is a higher predisposition to this syndrome it should be noted that within the study; the predominant gender is female. Still the group of men that most have an intermediate level of this syndrome. Furthermore, were altered dimensions of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization, the first being the most prominent; particularly in terms of working time, 30% of men who have worked more than 5 years are those that feel more exhausted. Concluding that although nurses who work in the center, are the people who tends to suffer from this syndrome, due to the existence of ix incidents that cause stress, so labor productivity is affected, influencing the development and prestige the institution and the quality of care.en
