| Descripción : | Objective: To determine the status and type of impressions most used by dentists, dental laboratories sent for making prostheses in the city of Quito- Ecuador. Material and Methods: A total of 111 Dental Technicians were surveyed, after signing the informed consent. The student explained the Dental Technician to answer with percentages (0-100 percent) according to previous experience. The survey was generated in google drive, participants filled it in a mobile device with internet connection, in which they identified the following aspects of the impressions they receive: impression material, status, disinfection and if they count with necessary information to work. Results: Dental Technicians rate the impressions sent by dentists as: 0 percent none excellent, 27 percent good, 65 percent regular and bad 8 percent. For complete and removable partial denture 80 percent of dentists send alginate impressions and the other 20 percent in silicone. For fixed prosthesis 100 percent are in silicone. Full-arch impressions are taken in 60 percent of the cases and 40 percent take partial impressions. The most common errors were: presence of bubbles in 20 percent to 30 percent of cases, tear from 10 percent to 20 percent and 10 percent presents double printing cases. Plastic tray is used 60 percent of the cases. 20 percent of dental impressions show traces of saliva and 30 percent traces of blood. Dental technicians expressed that 85.6 percent of dentists does not send the necessary information with the dental impressions. Conclusions: Dental impressions send by dentist are regular according to dental technicians. Full-arch impressions are more common although partial impressions are presented in 40 percent of the cases. Alginate was the most commonly used material for full dentures and removable prosthesis while silicone was the material selected for fixed prosthesis. The plastic tray in the most commonly used and 30 percent of impressions are not properly disinfected. |
