dc.descriptionThere are different ways to express and disseminate a message, one of which belongs to the genre of opinion journalism, and it is the caricature. This mechanism allows the analysis of different events through humor, such as political exercise. In this investigation, political caricature is studied in Ecuador, via the cartoons of President Rafael Correa during the period of 2012, 2013 and 2014 in the El Comercio, El Universo and El Telégrafo newspapers. In the last 8 years during the government of Rafael Correa, Ecuador has gone through a period of profound changes including: the approval in 2013 of the Organic Law of Communication (LOC) that until June 14, 2016, Fundamedios had recorded a total of 554 cases against media, of which 398 ended in sanctions and of those sanctions, 55 percent (220) were financial penalties; 27 percent (107) were written warnings and 11 percent (45) were public apologies. (Fundamedios, 2016). Among this data 4 sanctions are the subject of caricatures. It is also important to note that during the term of the current President, the lack of tolerance of political caricatures has been more evident, unlike other components of the genre of opinion journalism. With this background, this paper seeks to analyze: the humor as an iconographic message, the influence of the Organic Law of Communication in professional caricature and the value given to the political cartoon in the Ecuadorian media. In this investigation is theoretical part, a brief revision of world and Ecuadorian graphical humor will be visited, focused on past events and humorous approaches the universe of humor. Additionally, content regarding the opinion section will be addressed and as will iconographic concepts based on humor, for the analysis of the caricatures of President Rafael Correa.en
