Descripción : This research aims to assess the preferences of the soundscape elements in the historical area of Quito, comparing different techniques such as: soundwalking, binaural recording, and stereo recording. The results obtained were related to acoustical (LAeq, L95, L5), and psychoacustical (Loudness, Sharpness y Roughness) indexes. Audio recordings and acoustical measurements in several points in the historic area of Quito were made. The evaluation of the soundscapes was conducted in two stages: a soundwalking in the assessed area, and a controlled research in UDLA‟s laboratories. The designed soundwalking covered a significant area; as well a large variability of soundscapes was raised. A questionnaire was designed to assess subjective responses of perceived soundscapes. A psychoacoustic analysis of the audio sample was performed to obtain quantitative information about audio samples in laboratory scenario. Statistical analysis found differences between the perceptions of soundscapes according to the technique used. The presence of noise sources in soundscapes was defined using statistical descriptive. Relationships between verbal and acoustical descriptors were found using ANOVA tests. Through the same statistical method, it could relate verbal descriptors soundscapes to psychoacoustic indexes.
