| Descripción : | The oral hygiene habit is acquired since childhood by watching, listening and learning, till create a routine that should last a lifetime. Children acquiring or not this habit is responsibility of the parents, since the early ages of their children and must instill this essential teaching, as part of their daily routine hygiene. For this, parents should be properly informed about the subject without neglecting the food their children eat especially in school age. Without control of complex carbohydrates and sugary drinks, index caries risk increases significantly, there fore it is the duty of the dentist instruct parents to fulfill teach their children the importance of oral care and be very aware of the foods their children eat. The aim of this study was to conduct an educational short film with attractive images and suitable language, in order to improve the level of awareness of parents about the importance of dental health and level of education of children on it. For this, a survey was conducted, involving 100 parents that attended to the dental center of Universidad de las Américas, to measure knowledge about oral hygiene. The results reflect the lack of parental knowledge on the subject, some have not even talked to their dentists about proper oral hygiene; another percentage states that have not talked with their children about dental health. Therefore, the idea of implementing an educational audiovisual was accepted by the population consulted. |
