dc.descriptioneveral epidemiological studies regarding the prevalence indicate that more than 50 percent of the population has suffered from signs and symptoms associated with TMD being subject of interest in recent years for being one of the most complex systems constitute a nuisance health worldwide. Objective This study observational, transverse and descriptive aims to evaluate patients and determine the prevalence of temporomandibular disorder and guide students and professionals to make a correct diagnostic. Material and Methods The research was conducted in 100 patients, including men and women, conducted between 18 to 35 years of age of Dental Clinic of the University UDLA, Quito 2016. Patients were evaluated using the index Helkimo , which It includes anamnesis and clinical examination to determine whether they present TTM and assess its severity , obtaining data prevalent : Normal maximum aperture ( . equal or greater than 40 mm ) by 49 percent ; Maximum right handedness with mild limitation of glide ( 4 to 6 mm . ) by 36 percent ; Maximum left handedness with mild limitation of glide ( 4 to 6 mm . ) at 46 percent ; maximum protrusion with slight limitation ( between 4-6mm . ) at 52 percent ; ATM function in 49 percent ( without joint sounds and deviation 2mm opening and closing. ) ; state muscle , without tenderness in 85 percent ; joint state temporomandibular (ATM ) without tenderness in 88 percent ; mandibular movement without pain 88 percent. Results The prevalence in degrees according Helkimo index was: Temporomandibular Disorder mild in 32 patients (64 percent) and Temporomandibular Disorder moderate in 28 patients (56 percent). The prevalence of TMD was presented in 46 women (92 percent) of 18 to 35 years and 48 men (96 percent) of 18-35 years. Conclusions The prevalence of TMD was presented in 46 women (92 percent) of 18 to 35 years and 48 men (96 percent) of 18-35 years. The prevalence of degrees according to the index and gender Helkimo presented in : Normal Patient : 2 men (4 percent ) and 4 women (8 percent ) ; TTM mild : 18 men ( 36 percent) , 14 women (28 percent ) ; TTM moderate : 16 men ( 32 percent) and 12 women ( 24 percent ) ; TTM severe Grade 1 : 9 men ( 18 percent) and 12 women (24 percent ) ; TTM severe Grade 2 : 4 men ( 8 percent) and 6 women (12 percent ) ; TTM severe grade 3 : 1 man ( 2 percent) and 2 women ( 4 percent). Staff respondent age ranges from 18 to 35 years, the highest percentage corresponds to the age of 20 years 15 percent 21 years 14 percent 22 years 10 percent.en
