Sevoflurane is a halogenated inhalation anesthetic nonexplosive, characterized by its fast induction and recovery, in addition to their neither non-irritating properties nor pungent properties. In recent years, the application of sevoflurane has increased its use in human and veterinary medicine. Despite all the advantages of sevoflurane, it has been confirmed that over long periods of exposure to the inhalation anesthetic, they are produced nephrotoxic substances not yet examined in depth. The aim of this study was to determine the side effects of sevoflurane on renal function by indirect measurement of urea and creatinine in short-term veterinary procedures. This study involved 20 dogs, 10 belonging to the control group and 10 to the experimental group. Blood and urine samples were taken in the pre and post implementation of on hour of the maintenance therapy in the control group. In the experimental group, blood and urine samples were taken in the pre and post implementation of maintenance therapy + sevoflurane. Urea and creatinine measurements for renal evaluation were performed in both types of samples. No significant results were observed for the values of urea and creatinine before and after the intervention in both groups except for the pre-intervention control group in which significant decrease in pre vs. post of urea and serum creatinine values were observed. In conclusion, this study showed that in the current circumstances, there is no impaired renal function by the use of sevoflurane in veterinary interventions of short duration. However, it was observed that the level of hydration may influence the variation of the values of urea and creatinine in blood serum, this consideration should be taken into account in further studies.en
