Descripción : This research was conducted with the purpose of developing a management protocol and veterinary evaluation method to be applied to a group of llamas (Lama glama) selected for research purposes in Hacienda El Prado, IASA 1. The aim of this research was met by using specific restrain and handling methods included in a handling protocol. These methods reduced stressful events and improved animal welfare. The selection of the 6 animals was through inclusion and exclusion criteria and the samples were analyzed with the Friedman two-dimensional analysis of variance. By using this protocol, positive effects were obtained. These were determined when the levels of cortisol were compared before and after the protocol was applied, obtaining significantdifference (p-value < 0.05). Ova and parasite exams in stool samples were performed before, during and after investigation to determine the effect of handling animals in the place where they were and the effect of selected dewormer after having detected all kinds of parasites in different phases. In high parasitic load samples, statistical difference between the beginning and at the end was found. In medium and low parasitic load samples, there were no statistical difference between the beginning and the end. In the blood cell count, values remained in the normal range from the beginning to the end of the study. Values of blood enzymes and urinary metabolites, at the beginning of the study, were in normal ranges. This allows animals to be admitted into the study. There was an increased in the body condition of all animals at the end of the study (p value <0.05), including the male. One of the results of the investigation, a handling protocol was created which can be applied to scientific research.
