Resumen : A lo largo de la historia, los medios de comunicación han sido apetecidos por entidades políticas imponiendo ideologías en beneficio de sus intereses…
Descripción : Throughout history, media have been led by political entities imposing ideologies in the benefit of their own interests. One of the consequences of this situation is the birth of community radio stations. Organized groups with a common objective and purpose create these alternative means to raise their voices in order to develop their culture, educate and democratize the word. Radio has been characterized as a means of communication of high influence in society. Neither the development of digital means, nor its condition of massive means, has hindered its capacity to spread through several social groups, as in communities. That is when, the role and concept of community radio, aims to respond specifically to the participatory role and service to the community. In Ecuador, there are 35 community radio stations affiliated to the CORAPE (Alternative and Popular Coordination of Radios in Ecuador). One of these is Latacunga AM radio, which was created through the church to defend indigenous people’s rights. Through the analysis of its discourse, parts of the contents are communitarian, but at the same time there’s much to improve, especially in terms of audience participation. The programming has to be planned and build in a horizontal and democratic way, so the contents be congruent and organic with the function of these type of means. At the same time, Latacunga AM radio as all the rest of community radios in the Ecuador, have seen itself pressed by political entities and have to accept their advertising on the station because they support economically by them. This makes, the content get influenced for the benefit of the elites. On the other hand, the church manages the station, so the religious content is repetitive during programming. This becomes an evangelizing purpose, leaving aside the education and service to the community. About advertising, it has to be understood that it is not something that is isolated, its speeches are constructed from current events and radio programming. They also have to respond to the same objective that the community radios have.
