Resumen : El presente estudio se lo realizó con el objetivo de evaluar la glándula prostática, a fin de identificar los cambios que se puedan presentar en la misma, los cuales sugieran patologías en perros enteros clínicamente sanos...
Descripción : The following study, whose main objective was to evaluate the prostatic gland, tried to identify echographic changes that can be present within it, which suggest pathologies in non neutered healthy dogs. The subjects of study were 70 dogs between 4 and 10 years old with different weights. An ultrasound caudal approach of the prostate was made, measuring its longitudinal and wide length with a micro-convex transducer and 7,5 Mhz. The evaluated parameters were size, echogenicity and parenchymal texture. Of all the samples, 47 % had some changes that suggest disease. To make a better research the population was divided in size and age groups. If we evaluate the relation between dogs and size, there was no significant difference among big and small dogs as 60% of big dogs had ecographic changes suggesting disease 60% and small dogs had 40%. Percentage changes regarding age were: Animals between 4-5 had 41%, between 6-7 had 41%, between 8-9 had 44 %, and ten year olds had 73 % changes. The comparison between these values was not significant. It was concluded that 4 years old and above non neutered dogs present changes that suggest prostatic pathologies not showing clinical signs. Despite the fact there is no significant difference using the statistical method Chi2, it can be seen higher percentage changes suggesting pathology in big and older dogs noticing a heterogeneous prostatic parenchyma.
