Descripción : This paper is main objective is to compare two different methods of hearing test. The first one is called acumetry. It was designed by the German otologist Adolf Rinne in 1855, and nowadays, it has been relegated and displaces by different methods considered more accurate. The second method is called audiometry, which is widely used today in order to evaluate people is hearing quantitatively. The comparison between these two methods is made in terms of precision, execution time and cost; besides, it has been done an analysis of the advantages and disadvantages that each one has. Thus, the two tests (both acumetry and audiometry) took place consecutively to a total of 72 people. In the process, data of their age, gender, time of each test as well as the results was compiled. After making the corresponding analysis results, it was found that acumetry cannot replace a formal audiometry and must be used only as a preliminary screening test; however, it offers several advantages to be considered, such as: low cost, high accuracy in healthy patients, high portability, among others. On the other hand, the main advantage of audiometry is that the results are quantitative, which leaves no room for doubt as acumetry does; besides, it allows to classify the patient’s hearing within clearly defined ranges.
