Descripción : In this paper, I try to find how a liquidity shock affects the money supply in Ecuador, represented by the credit to the private sector by private banks. As a liquidity shock, I take the liquidity regulation that was appointed on July 2012, by the resolution No. 028-2012 that was established by the Board of the Central Bank of Ecuador. To prove this, I estimated a time series with limited lags, using as dependent variables the total credit, and each one of the different segments of credit that private banks attend, in order to analyze the impact of the 2012 regulation on the credit supply as a total, and on each of the different types of credit. All the variables used in the regression were used as the first differences of the logarithm of the series, to get the impact on the variation of the credit supply. The results of the regressions suggest that this shock had a negative impact on the credit supplied by the private banks, with significant impacts on total credit and consumer credit.
