dc.description | Mastitis is one of the main causes for economic losses in the bovine dairy industry around the world. Subclinical mastitis is the most common form of presentation for mastitis and also the most expensive because there are no obvious clinical signs of sickness, no measures are taken for correcting the problem and the animal not only produces a lower quantity of milk, but the animal itself becomes a focus of infection for all the herd. The main objective of the present research was to identify mastitis associated pathogens, and determine the antimicrobial susceptibility in six communities of small dairy producers associated with INIAP in Pichincha and Imbabura. The apparent prevalence of mastitis per animal was 74,41% and 51,54% per quarter. The isolated pathogens where Enterobacteriaceae (0,62%), Staphylococcus spp. (50,00%) and Streptococcus spp. (35,80%). The predominant microorganisms where Streptococcus spp.: 27,16% and Staphylococcus spp.: 23,46%, followed by S. intermedius: 14,81%, Streptococcus agalactiae: 8,64%, Staphylococcus coagulase positive: 6,17%, S. aureus: 5,56% and Escherichia coli: 0,62%. The antibiotic sensitivity varies with the gender, species and location. The chi-square statistical analysis indicates that the prevalence of mastitis differs between the studied communities.
| es_ES |
