Descripción : In order to decrease the concentration of the organic load present in wastewater from domestic activities, it has developed an experimental laboratory scale unit, consisting of three filters in serie. This system was based on the bio trickling that is slowly fluid through porous material (pumice, pieces of keyboards and black shell materials used in the present study), in which microorganisms break down the organic matter contained in wastewater. According to the results, it has been determined that the system is effective for the removal of parameters such as COD, BOD5, phosphate, total nitrogen, Ph and turbidity. While the parameter of conductivity, was the only one who did not show a difference in concentration after application of the different treatments. BOD5 decreased value was observed in all treatments, the treatment system achieved total removal equal to 95.77 percent of this parameter; while the COD removal reached with considerable experimental system employed. The wastewater had an initial concentration of 550.3 mg / I, the treated effluent obtained a value of 58.8 mg / l COD, which exposes a removal of 89.31 percent after passing through the system studied. Through the development of this work, it was possible to demonstrate that the employee of the bio filtration is effective for the removal of contaminants, this being a suitable not only industrial, but also at the level of small communities. Moreover, the system proposed allows the discharge of treated effluent into bodies of fresh water; thus complying with the established permissible limits in legal environmental regulations (TULSMA).
