Resumen : El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo principal, observar la prevalencia de los diferentes biotipos gingivales. Durante este estudio se pudo constatar la importancia del biotipo gingival, con la respuesta de este a los distintos tratamientos odontológicos que se relacionen. Se evaluó el biotipo gingival según diferentes aspectos que son: la morfología dental de la pieza evaluada, la edad del paciente, el género de los individuos de estudio, longitud de encía queratinizada y ventajas y desventajas de poseer los distintos tipos de encía. La literatura menciona a los diferentes tipos gingivales que los clasifica en biotipo grueso y delgado. Dentro de la metodología de esta investigación se evaluó a 70 pacientes que asistan a la Clínica Odontológica de la Universidad de las Américas, y se observó la traslucidez de la sonda periodontal dentro del surco marginal sabiendo de esta forma el biotipo gingival encontrado, del mismo modo se visualizó la forma de la corona y el espacio de encía queratinizada midiendo desde el margen hasta la línea mucogingival.
Descripción : This study had as main objective, to monitor the prevalence of the different biotypes gingival. During this study was possible to verify the important of the gingival biotype with the answer of this to the different dental treatments that are related. Gingival biotype was evaluated according to different aspects that were: the morphology of the dental piece evaluated, the age of the patient, the gender of the individuals in the study, length of gingiva keratinized and the advantages and disadvantages of possessing the different kinds of gum. The literature mentions the different kinds of gingival which classifies in thick and thin biotype. Within this methodology of research 70 patients attending to dental clinic of the University of the Americas were evaluated and it was observed the translucency of the periodontal probe in the marginal groove knowing in this way the gingival biotype found, in the same way it was visualized the shape of the crown and the space of the keratinized gum measuring from the margin to the line mucogingival
