Descripción : This degree work was raised as main objective to determine the prevalence of temporomandibular joint disorders existing in a young adult population and students of the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of the Americas. As implicit part of this study we want the students get to know the importance of a correct dentistry anamnestic and clinical evaluation of the TMJ due to its degenerative consequences over time if left untreated. Several international studies talk about a high rate of this disease; in addition to that there is a higher prevalence in women than in men. This study tries to verify all of the raised hypothesis and observe the severity of TMJ disorders presented by this population. There are a few studies about this subject in Ecuador, therefore we took the initiative to start this study work. Temporomandibular Joint is the cornerstone of a healthy development of the oral system as such should be evaluated with equal importance. The dentists have the obligation to evaluate the health of the TMJ within the clinical history, devoting enough time for a proper diagnosis and treatment.
