Descripción : This investigative project is made up of two parts: the first is a bibliographic research that constitutes the conceptual frame and it is composed of five chapters, in the first chapter the historical evolution of the family is revised and also the diversity of the family models that exist at the present moment. In the second chapter we will study the family as a social system from which its structure, management of boundaries, roles and communication allows us to obtain a clear perspective of the operations, interactions and influence that each of the members has over the family and between them. In the same way we will concentrate on understanding how the sexual roles have evolved and the consequences that it has on the couple and how they take on the parental roles and assume their functions now a days. The third chapter explains the roles the children play in the family circle. We will analyze the impact that the presences of the parents has over the emotional stability of the children and how the new parental strategies are put to the test do to the children’s demands throughout the life cycle. The fourth chapter includes aspects of how the parents handle their authority over the children; we will examine the importance of the family’s hierarchy and how this influences the relationships that the family members have. In the fifth and last chapter we will analyze the influence that third parties can have in the care and education of the kids, as is the case of school and its Importance in the formation of the children. The objective of this investigation is to identify how now a days the parental roles work in families in which both the mother and the father work and how this circumstances affect the children. From the descriptive investigation we can conclude that the family roles are characterized by flexibility and the capacity to negotiate their functions. The responsibilities can be shared by the parents according to the needs and reality of each family, in addition to the parental functions that are characteristic of each gender which help maintain a relative stability and that is considered fundamental to insure the wellbeing of its members and their interactions. The consequences of the mentioned circumstances influences the process of communication and affectivity of the children, many of which show difficulties to identify with their familiar surroundings, obey norms and rules this is due to the fact that the authority figures divers and a lot of the times interpose generating confusion.
