Descripción : This research has shown that Ecuador is a generator of several products, among which are processed and also products that represent raw material for the manufacture of other, sorne aspects like weather, geography and human knowledge convert them to potential denominations country of origin, or, in the case of not meeting the requirement of the geographical factor, exist the option to use them as collective marks, since these two legal concepts effectively give recognition and guarantee both the development process and the final product offered to the consumar public. The latter, acknowledge and agree that by having recognition of a designation of origin or a collective mark, the product you wish to purchase must inevitably have a greater market value in respect of their peers. There are several examples that serve globally reference of the process of development of a designation of origin ora collective mark to exploit sustainably and obtain positiva results of labor, economic and social, like Champagne (Franca), Tequila (Mexico), Café de Colombia, among the highlights. While there are several obstacles that arise in the process of developing a designation of origin or collective marks, we have shown that these difficulties are eminently surmountable, provided there is total willingness of stakeholders to reach agreements with the intention to carry forward a project with great retums.
