| dc.description | Transmissible Venereal Tumour (TVT) is a non-infectious, contagious cancer present in canines and transmitted through direct contact allowing the transfer of viable cell clones from sick to susceptible animals, which has a completely different karyotype compared to domestic canines. It was first described in 1876, and has been the centre of a large number of worldwide researches since then; although Ecuador has a high number of dogs affected with TVT, there are no official studies or scientific papers issuing this problem. The aim of this study was to evaluate the serum levels of erythropoietin (EPO), cytologies, histologies, haemogram and neoplasic morphology to diagnose TVT in canines identified in Imbabura province, Ecuador.
