| Descripción : | In veterinary medicines parasites are an issue of utmost importance due to the fact that they affect animal welfare and can be zoonotic to humans. The purpose of this study was to determine the period of reinfection of gastrointestinal parasites for animals in captivity. Another aim of the investigation was to discover what species of parasites affect the carnivores that are found in the Quito Zoo in Guayllabamba. The collection of feces of the animal began at the end of November 2011, and over a period of night months we collected sixteen fecal samples per carnivore in the Quito Zoo. The captive animals studied were spectacled bear (Tremactos ornatus), the hadean fox (Psuedalopex culpaeus), raccoons (Procyon cancrivorus), tairas (Eira barbara), jaguar (Panthera onca), puma (Puma concolor), ocelots (Leopardus pardalis) and the African lion (Panthera leo)...See attached file |
