The infestations of parasites that affect the gastrointestinal system of different wild animals in Ecuador, is a serious problem for their normal course and health when theyare in captivity. As the reptiles and birds of different species more vulnerable to visible changes of being parasitized, we proceeded to carry out a study to determine a preventive schedule against different types of parasites that affect them. The objective of this project is to evaluate the prevalence of parasites in a significant sample of the of zoos animal population, after a general parasite control. The experiment was conducted in Quito Zoo at Guayllabamba, province of Pichincha. 49 animals were used, including: Galápagos turtles (G. nigra), Motelo Turtles (G. Denticulata), Brown-front macaw (Ara severa), Red Face Parakeet (Aratinga erythrogenys), Blue-front Parakeet (Pionus mesntrus), Orange-winged parrot (Amazona amazónica), Copper-winged Parakeet (Pionus chalcopterus), Giant Royal Parrot (Amazona farinosa), Pilgrim falcon (Falcus peregrinus), Barn Owl (Tyto alba), y White-chested Toucans (Ramphastus tucanus). We performed random coprological examinations on each of the species used to determine the prevalence and type of parasites they had. Subsequently a specific parasite control and continued with other tests to determine the period re-infestation. The experiment lasted for 252 days, where we observed that the reptiles are more susceptible to parasitic infestation than birds; therefore, we use different parasite control protocols.en
