Descripción : The bovine papilomatosis is a viral disease, specie-specific, caused by more than 10 types of Bovine Papillomavirus (BPV). These viruses cause injuries in different anatomic areas in the animal body. The virus enters into the organism through cuts and lacerations in the skin, through direct contact between animals, and through infected instruments. Recently, viral DNA has been found into different body fluids, including blood; and in other organs and cells, such as uterus, oocytes, and sperm. The most susceptible animals are the calves, and animals under 2 years old; but all the animals, at any age, can be infected. The size and structure of the lesions depend on the type of virus that infects the animal. In some cases, the warts can progress to malignant transformation, and can develop into neoplasic lesions, and eventually into carcinoma. The economic losses caused by papilomatosis are not very important. In Ecuador, there are not any studies about the disease, and there is no data about prevalence, incidence and influence of the papilomatosis in milk production. The objective of this study is to know how the papilomatosis affects the Dairy Cattle in Pedro Vicente Maldonado. 36 animals with clinical lesions of papilomatosis were sampled, and these samplings were submitted to biometric, protein and histopathological analysis. The influence of the environment and the animal handling were also evaluated. The results showed lymphocytosis and monocytosis, related with chronical papilomatosis. The presence of immature white cells is related with neoplastic lesions caused by the virus and matches the histopathological result. The weather plays an important role in the development of the disease especially in Bos Taurus breeds.
