Descripción : The main objective of this research is to establish the disposition for financial contribution from the residents of Quito to start a new program for noise reduction over the next ten years. The program aims to eliminate the annoyance caused by city noise such as traffic, while also identify the index of annoyance from each sector The methodology used for the economic valuation of traffic noise was the contingent valuation method, which is known to generate a hypothetical market through socio-economical surveys. Whereas the method to assess noise annoyance was with the ISO/TS 15666:2003 (E), Acoustics – Assessment of noise annoyance by means of social and socio-acoustic surveys. The collection of information was done in three parishes, which were located within the Quitenian Territory. Each of them is inside of one of the three administrative zones that form the consolidated city of DMQ. There was a total recollection of about 90 surveys, covering 3293 [km2], 13 census sectors, 229 census blocks, 8612 homes and 27,631 people. The results suggested that the majority of surveyed individuals, 64 percent of them, are willing to financially contribute towards the program to reduce the noise level due to vehicular traffic through the environmental project. The assessment of noise annoyance was measured by the following scale: Far below Average, Below Average, Average, above average, and far above average. Approximately, 51 percent of people selected “above average” as the option for noise annoyance during the daytime; while 65 percent of people ranked above average for noise annoyance during evening hours. Finally, it is concluded that the citizens living within the Hipercentro-Quiteño are favorably disposed to take action in order to reduce the noise pollution due to vehicular traffic. Therefore, if a project that depends on economic and financial collaboration from the community would go underway; this research proves it would have a great potential of succeeding.
