Descripción : The wastewater generated from agricultural activities represents a potential danger of contamination due to the wide variety of chemical products used for the conservation and cleaning of the different areas and the increase in production. For this reason, in this project the possible treatment alternatives were analyzed and the election of an optimal and lower cost process that allowed to purify the waters generated from the cleaning of the milking area of the UDLA-Nono Experimental Center was carried out, in such a way that These can be reused for irrigation and thus generate an environmental benefit by reducing daily water consumption and avoiding contamination of farm land, complying with the permissible limits established in Ordinance 213 of the Metropolitan District of Quito. The project is focused on improving the current conditions of the site and in turn benefit the residents of the Parish of San Miguel de Nono, by emitting to the environment an effluent with low content of pollutants that does not represent an environmental risk for the area. To determine the best treatment it was necessary to carry out a characterization of the tributary, which allowed to know the main pollutants. Considering the aforementioned, the treatment process will be composed of: a screening system, which will allow retaining all those larger solids that may affect the proper functioning of the plant; a settler that will perform two functions: that of a storage and homogenization tank and that of a primary settler that will allow the elimination of suspended and sedimentable solids and in turn decrease the BOD5 content. Finally, there will be an activated carbon filter, an ecological alternative of low cost and maintenance, which will improve the conditions of the effluent, by reducing the presence of coliforms, BOD and COD, until obtaining the appropriate values so that the water can be reused for irrigation and does not represent any danger of contamination. Finally, the construction costs and the advantages that the project offers were established.
