dc.description | Several horses in the country suffer from digestive problems that often turned to be a malabsorption syndrome, which is often misdiagnosed with cases related to parasites or lack of nutrients in the diet. In this case study, a mare from the Villa Capria presented a low Body Condition (BC) for a long time, at the same time a definitive diagnosis is unknown as to why she presents this condition, since diet changes were previously made in addition to the administration of frequent deworming. The Mare was subjected to a thorough clinical examination which included a physical and organ systems examinations, then laboratory tests such as hemogram, biochemistry, liver, kidney among others; also an endoscopy, rectal palpation, dental exam. Several tests and examinations that were performed on the mare did not clearly show an accurate diagnosis, making it difficult to come to a definite diagnosis. When observing the results of several blood components, constant alterations in certain parameters could be observed which suggested a liver problem. The result of this case study was to have reached a definitive diagnosis, which is a malabsorption syndrome that is caused by chronic active hepatitis, which does not have a specific treatment. | en |
