In this project, integrated design strategies are applied to create an eco-furniture at the Botanical Garden of Quito. As a first step, different global issues that affect not only the environment but also the sustainable development are contextualized. Questioning one from another lifestyle of the people It highlights the ecological footprint that human being leaves by living in a globalized system lead by consumption. (Viñolas Marlet, 2005) This research is done on real live situations in Ecuador and is taken as the major axis the solid waste management of the Metropolitan District of Quito, because according to statistics 60 por ciento of daily collected waste is organic matter, while the other 40 por ciento is inorganic matter and only 10 por ciento is recycled. (Diario Hoy, 2012) Another drawback related to the environment is the bad ecological philosophy practiced by the companies, since take advantage from the environment issues to get economic benefits, this is known as “Greenwashing”. Ecuador by being located in a privileged geographical area, especially in the Andes, has a vegetable paradise and has been recognized worldwide as a megadiverse country. To know and appreciate the extensive vegetable kingdom dedicated sites has been created to care and preserve (ex–situ) many vegetable species and especially those that are endangered. One of these sites is the Botanical Garden of Quito, whose objectives are committed to the care and preserve the Ecuadorian Andean flora. (Botanical Garden of Quito, 2013) The management of its directors is a synonymous of commitment to nature and it is a place where visitors can find harmony environment, especially for being in the middle of town. In addition to being able to apply design knowledge, this project is found to be the starting point for more projects to be implemented where nature is the main source of inspiration, as it has been able to survive for more than four billion years (Pujals, 2013), being enough to start leading a philosophy that sets aside the word “waste” and move on to find viable means to integrate them into new life cycles, as its done by nature. (McDonoug and Braungart, 2005) For this reason the published proposal considers the example of nature to be a creative solution to the problem of solid waste from Quito, especially using not well know materials such as boards made from recycled Tetra Pack. The Botanical Garden of Quito, is taken as an initial stage of the proposal of eco-friendly furniture’s systems to met real environmental commitment, with nature being the main source of it is inspiration and for the development of the entire project.en
