Resumen : Las personas trans son una de las diversidades sexuales más excluidas y violentadas. Se conoce muy poco de cómo es su vida y su realidad humana, sin embargo se los discrimina a causa de una construcción sociocultural...
Descripción : Trans people are one of the sexual diversities who suffer more discrimination than others. Very few things are known about their lifestyle, but they are emarginated every day, because of the socio-cultural construction about the theme. The first chapters of this investigation try to show the link between discrimination to trans people, the mass media and professional ethics, based on the responsibility of the journalists to watch human rights in the information they give, because of the their influence in the conformation of public opinion. Those are the reasons for which this investigation tries to establish what opinion do people have in Quito about trans persons and how has the written media (specifically El Comercio and Hoy) influenced it, to elaborate an instrument than helps journalists in the coverage of this themes, from an ethics perspective and trying to accomplish one of their missions: presenting other lifestyles as equally valid as the hegemonic one. To accomplish this goal three investigation instruments were used: interview with qualified people, opinion polls, and analysis of the media. The results show high levels of discrimination and the necessity of elaborating an instrument to help journalists with trans coverage, so all people can have true timely information with human rights perspective, that follows the legal a constitutional precepts, knowing that the Constitution establish that the State is the responsible of boosting this kind of projects.
