Resumen : OBJETIVO: Analizar el efecto del programa unipolar de equilibrio en el desempeño de pruebas funcionales en adultos mayores de 65/ 80 años...
Descripción : OBJECTIVE: To analyze the effect of a single leg balance program on the performance of functional tests in older adults between 65 - 80 years. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 12 subjects, male and female have participated in the Elderly Hospital falling workshop between the ages of 65 - 80 years, who were divided into two groups taking into account that the workshop lasted two months; and in the last month the single leg balance program was executed, the two groups were evaluated at the beginning, midterm and at the end, including the single leg balance test, Timed get up and go test and the Tinetti scale. RESULTS: A repeated measures ANOVA found a significant improvement only in the control group (GCONT) between the pre test and post-test in the left side for the single leg balance test (p=0,047) and the Timed get up and go test (p=0,011) at the intra-group level. Conversely, there were no significant improvements in any of the evaluated variables for the experimental group (GEXP). CONCLUSIONS: The current study did not show significant changes in the experimental group (GEXP); it was concluded that the duration, number of participants in the program, its design and the tools used due to components that will be discussed later that are related to modern technological tools could have impacted the results in the single leg balance program. KEY WORDS: Aging, balance, risk of falling, Timed get up and go, single leg balance, Tinetti.
