Introduction: The distal radius fracture is one located less than 2.5 cm from the radiocarpal joint. It can be caused by different mechanisms, however, the most common is the result of a fall on the outstretched hand. Treatment of fractures of the distal radius requires meticulous reconstruction of the articular surface, as well as stable osteosynthesis using the AVL or AVF plate approach and early functional postoperative recovery. Materials and methods: A retrospective, comparative, observational study of two groups was performed for surgical resolution of radius fractures: group one: patients who underwent osteosynthesis with a fixed angle plate; group two: patients undergoing osteosynthesis with a variable angle plate; in patients of the Hospital San Francisco de Quito - IESS. To compare the different types of plaques, a radiographic evaluation was used, obtaining the radial angle of inclination, the angle of palmar inclination, and the radial length of the anteroposterior and lateral radiographs of the wrist of the immediate postoperative period of each patient. The information was obtained from the medical records of those patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria previously established in the study. The Kolmogorov Smirnov test and the Student T test were analyzed using the SPSS program. Finally, to analyze if there were no differences regarding age and sex in the two groups, the chi-square test was performed. Results: According to the measurements made, in the two types of plaque used in osteosynthesis, a distribution according to the sex of 29 men and 30 women was observed, in addition to a predominance in the use of AVL plates with 39 in relation to the AVF with 20. Regarding the frequency of the injury due to its laterality, 64.4 percent is evident on the left side, 35.6 percent on the right. When applying the Kolmorogorov – Smirnorv test a Volar Angle is obtained, a value of p = 0.77, in Dorsal Angle p=0,76 and Radial Length p= 0.54, so p value indicated is normally distributed. When applying the T-Student test, a Radial Angle is obtained, a value of p = 0.60, with a mean of 15,65 grados (measuring range: 8 degree a 27 grades) for AVF plates and 16.01 gredos (measuring range: 4 grades a 24 degree) for AVL plates, in Dorsal Angle p = 0.17, with a mean of 11.91º (measuring range: 4 degree a 26 degree) for AVF plates y 11.93 degrees (measuring range: 2 degree a 25 degrees) for AVL plates and Radial Length p = 0.02, with a mean of 4.05 mm for AVF plates and 5.74 mm for AVL plates. Conclusions: There is a better recovery of Radial Length in the immediate postsurgical radiological evaluation with the use of AVL plates versus the use of AVF plates. There are no statistically significant differences in the measurement of the Volar Angle and Dorsal Angle.en
