Resumen : La construcción de personaje mediante elementos psicológicos es todo un reto, sin duda un buen camino dentro del cine para representar el realismo y la complejidad del ser humano...
Descripción : Building a character with psycological elements is a challange, without doubt a right path in cinema to represent reality and the complexity of human beings. Through the understanment of diversity with features that charectarize our character, a maze of experiences full of sinester emotions, that makes understand certain behaviours that comes from a mental disease. Taking into account the specfic behaviour of a person that has paranoid schizophrenia, a mental disease that is the main axis of this story. The psychological thriller is a subgenre that dives into a character whose mind becomes the most attractive side and the focus of the story. There is great freedom in the construction of a character that is not governed between good and evil, but rather a being that contains several psychological traits, resembling human complexity. The subtlety is used as a tool of the subgenre, providing information of the character and its history little by little, in this manner the viewer discovers together with the protagonist the resolution of facts and the response to the enigmas presented. Umbral (Rivadeneira, 2020) is the representation of several elements and psychological features that give life to a complex character. The story focuses on the protagonists psyche and adds other characters as part of the memory of traumatic episodes. These episodes mark Tomás, a man whose goal is to fit into a society that emerges from his mental paradigms, and leads him to rejection and isolation from its surroundings. In search to move away from the typical cinematographic representations where a monster is a reason for easy terror, it is sought to focus on a being who is not from this world to represent and give physical body to the characters disorder. A confusion is created throughout the story and finally it is discovered that it is a personal battle seeking to humanize Tomás and the audience identifies with him.
