Descripción : OBJECTIVE: To establish the impact of physical activity on tobacco consumption in people of the Metropolitan District of Quito during 2017. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Retrospective cross sectional study reviewing data from the Salud al Paso program. The number of people who use tobacco and of those who conduct AF at a general level and by zonal districts was calculated. The association between the AF variable, tobacco consumption and confusing variables through a Chi2 was also analyzed. Finally, the odd ratios was calculated through a multiple regression. The variables analyzed were age, sex, BMI, consumption of alcoholic beverages, education and zonal district. RESULTS: Four thousand nine hundred twenty-five people use tobacco (9.21 percent); Eight hundred and forty-five people resided in zone 6 (1.58 percent). The Chi2 test determined a significant association between smoking, physical activity and all the variables of this study (p 0.001). Multiple regression found significant associations with risk factors for the variables alcohol consumption (p 0.001) and zonal district (p 0.001). CONCLUSION: The prevalence of tobacco use in this study was 9.21 percent. District 6 was the area with the highest number of cases (1.58 percent). There was a significant association between smoking, physical activity and the other variables of the study. The main risk factors were alcohol consumption and zonal district.
