MATERIALS AND METHODS: retrospective cross-sectional study reviewing data from the Health Step program. The number of people who have diabetes and these that perform general level physical activity and parishes was calculated. The association was also performed between the variable physical activity, Diabetes and confounding variables through a Chi2. Finally, the "odds ratios" was calculated by multiple regression. The variables analyzed were age, gender, BMI, snuff, alcohol, education and parish. RESULTS: Two thousand nine hundred and eighty people with diabetes (5.2 percent); five hundred and thirty seven lived in zonal district 6 (0. 94 percent). The Chi2 test determined a significant association between all variables except the variable study physical activity (p 0.558). Multiple regression found associations risk Parish variable am zone 2 (CI 1377 1726; p 0.001), am zonal 3 (CI 1054- 1329; p 0.004), am zonal 4 (CI 1.169- 1.503; p 0.001) and am zonal 9 (CI 1105-1460; p 0.000). CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of diabetes was 5, 2 percent. The zonal am greater number of cases was the zonal am 6 (0, 4 percent). There was a significant association between all variables except the variable physical activity. The main risk factors were in the administrative zones 2, 3, 4 and 9.
