Resumen : El marketing multinivel es un sistema de venta de productos o servicios compuestos, principalmente, de dos factores: la venta directa y la generación de redes de mercadeo. Este trabajo de investigación identifica cómo funcionan y se regulan las compañías multinivel en Ecuador, dando a conocer sus características, debilidades, fortalezas y modelo de negocio a través de testimonios. Debido a que las compañías multinivel han sido relacionadas con las estafas piramidales, esta investigación detalla las diferencias entre ambos sistemas. Asimismo, se describe a las instituciones que pueden estar involucradas para identificar la legalidad de estas empresas en Ecuador. Las compañías multinivel y sus representantes independientes utilizan estrategias para armar sus redes de mercadeo. Estas dinámicas han sido analizadas por sociólogos, quienes encuentran rasgos parecidos con congregaciones religiosas. Este trabajo abre un debate sobre el tema a través de las opiniones de expertos y testimonios.
Descripción : Multilevel Marketing is a system for selling products or services. It is mainly composed by two factors: direct selling and marketing nerworks. This research identifies how multilevel companies work and how they are regulated in Ecuador. It also explains their characteristics, weaknesses, strengths and business model through testimonies. Taking into account that multilevel companies have been linked to pyramid schemes, this research details differences between both systems. It also describes the institutions that are involved in identifying the legality of these companies in Ecuador. Multilevel companies and their independent representatives use strategies to build their marketing networks. These dynamics have been analyzed by sociologists, who find there are similar features between multilevel selling strategies and religious persuasive methods. This worwork opens a debate on the subject through experts' opinions and testimonies.
