Descripción : The contamination that is generated after dental treatments can cause a cross-infection of various viral and bacterial diseases, for which a disinfection of the dental area must always be performed and in this way avoid any disease. Objectives: To determine the level of contamination generated after performing a dental prophylaxis, with and without the use of Lysol detected by Luminol in the dental equipment. Assess the contamination that is located in the head of the dental chair. Verify the effectiveness of Lysol by eliminating contamination. Prevent the spread of diseases through the information provided in this study. Materials and methods: The present investigation is observational, because the contamination generated in a dental prophylaxis was observed, revealed through the use of Luminol with application of Lysol and without its application. The universe will consist of the dental chair (dental head) of the clinic of the faculty of dentistry of the UDLA. 40 dental chair heads will be selected, in which the patients have performed a dental prophylaxis according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The technique for 20 shots is to place a box on the head of the dental chair to have a dark field, through a side hole we enter with the spray and Luminol is sprayed on the head of the dental chair covered with transparent biosecurity plastic, and immediately we take the Photography. The technique for the next 20 shots is to spray Lysol on the head of the dental chair, wait 15 seconds and place the box to have a dark field and through the same side hole enter and spray Luminol, take the picture and compare if there is disinfection. Results: This research showed that in 67.5% of the treatments investigated there is little disinfection with Lysol and this covers 100% of prophylaxis and periodontal treatments, while in 27.5% of researched treatments that include restorations, Total and removable prosthesis blood was not present when revealing with Luminol, and therefore, it was not detected if Lysol eliminates blood contamination when there is no presence of it, and as a minor percentage we have the crown size treatments that comprise 5 % of procedures investigated, in these if a slight amount of blood was detected, and being a small amount it was revealed that Lysol did eliminate this blood contamination. Conclusions: The purpose of this work was to verify the efficacy of Lysol by disinfecting and checking whether or not it eliminates blood contamination, for which it was detected that in most cases it is scarce. For this, it is concluded that a wider coverage of disinfection with a set of supplies should be used to eliminate the blood contamination of the dental equipment, and thus avoid the spread of many diseases.
