Objective: To demonstrate the causes of loss of vertical dimension in adult patients between 35 and 45 years of age who attend the Dental Care Center (CAO) of the University of the Americas. Introduction: Variations in the vertical dimension can be the etiopathogenic basis of certain pathologies and pains. Method: The patient must meet the inclusion requirements, proceed to take extraoral front photos to measure thirds, and intraoral photographic record of the jaw and jaw using mirrors, mouth separators to visualize the cause of the loss of vertical dimension in a clinical way The population analyzed will be 300 patients within which a sample of 90 patients between 35 and 45 years is determined. Results: It was obtained that, on average, patients under 35 years of age show a wear of 1.11mm, those between 35 and 45 years old are 2.23mm and people with ages over 45 years are 2.87mm. The first cause for the loss of vertical dimension is the absence of subsequent pieces with 26.7%, followed by restorations without morphology with 23.3%. Then it is followed by bruxism with 16.7%, crowding with 10.0% and finally the gyroversion included in the group of others with 3.3% that does not represent a significant cause in the loss of vertical dimension. Conclusions: The subsequent dental loss, bruxism, crowding, gyros, operative treatments and orthodontics with errors in the planning cause the loss of vertical dimension, therefore, the hypothesis is proven.en
