Resumen : Muchos de los cuerpos de agua dulce se ven afectados por las actividades humanas, sobre todo por descargas ácidas de la actividad minera…
Descripción : Many of the freshwater bodies are affected by human activities, especially by acid discharges from mining activity. Downloads that have a high content of heavy metals such as arsenic. In the present study, exposure tests were conducted at different concentrations of arsenic to individuals of the Nectopsyche genus, which have optimal characteristics to work at the laboratory level. A control was used, a low concentration of 0.05 mg / L, a mean of 0.1 mg / L (maximum allowable of the Ecuadorian standard) and a high concentration of 0.5 mg / L. The experimentation period was 5 days. Physicochemical parameters were measured every 12 hours, where there was an increase in temperature and therefore a decrease in dissolved oxygen and an increase in conductivity. A decrease in pH in the highest concentration of 0.5 mg / L of As was evident. Metal measurements were made at the beginning and at the end of the experimentation, and its variations were determined to be very close. The medium, becoming more acidic, caused the death of some individuals from the second day; the rest of the individuals presented a decrease in locomotive activity as the experimentation time progressed. At the end of the fifth day of the test, living organisms were cold preserved (-80 ° C) for biomarker testing. The organisms showed less enzymatic activity in higher concentrations of heavy metal because it was used to reduce oxidative stress. In conclusion, at a higher concentration of arsenic a lower pH was obtained. In addition, the lowest levels of mobility and the highest mortality rate were presented at concentrations 2 and 3. The biochemical responses of the individuals were favorable to stress, at higher concentrations they showed a higher consumption of enzymes as a means of protecting their tissues, unlike the control where it was not necessary because the medium was not intervened.
